About Lighthouse Relief

Since September 2015, Lighthouse Relief has organized emergency response operations on the north shore of Lesvos in the small fishing village of Skala Sikaminias. At a distance of 8km, Lesvos serves as a regular entry point for refugees crossing the Aegean Sea from Turkey into Europe.

To ensure safe passage for those seeking refuge, Lighthouse Relief has built an around-the-clock team of emergency response volunteers who respond to all north shore landings, operate day and evening spotting shifts, and work in cooperation with the other organizations to ensure arrivals are supported in overnight transit.

Lighthouse Relief provides emergency response, first aid, shelter and care to those who disembark at the First Reception Camp in Skala Sikamineas.

Despite the EU-Turkey deal boats continue to come ashore and Lighthouse Relief operations remain active and ready to scale up when needed.

Lighthouse Relief also provides emergency relief and other services on mainland Greece from our base in Ritsona.

Plans for 2018

Lighthouse Relief will continue to operate with landing teams made up of our volunteers who are on-call during 24 hour shifts to provide landing assistance. At the landing site, the landing team provides water, biscuits, and emergency blankets. After landing, people are transported to “Stage 2”, a UNHCR transit camp where the landing team provides non-food items, such as dry clothing and toiletries, and reassurance to those arriving.

Lighthouse Relief plans to continue its spotting operations at Korakas Lighthouse during the night and at Lepetimnos during the day. The goal is to identify potential refugee boats and ensure the correct actors are informed so that every person on board arrives safely.

This platform is powered by Asterias-Starfish Foundation. We are trying to let every organisation have a clear view of the needs on the island of Lesvos. To give them access to funding when they haven't any, and give to the donors the full information they need, when they want to offer their help.

Let's work together, to cover the needs of this humanitarian crisis, through a transparent platform

About us

Matching needs and offers.

Asterias-Starfish Foundation being on the refugees' crisis field for a long time, came face to face with emergency needs, lack of information and communication. Even now, when the flow is not so big, actually nobody knows the needs of the others. So many times, items are remaining in warehouses and refugees still need them. On the other hand, donors want to offer their help in this refugee crisis, but they cannot find where to channel this help.

We are launching this platform to help us to work more efficiently.  To let every organization have a clear view of the needs on the island of Lesvos. To give them access to funding when they haven't any, and give to the donors the full information they need, when they want to offer their help.

Let's work together, to cover the needs of this humanitarian crisis, through a transparent platform.
