About Dirty Girls of Lesvos

Dirty Girls is proud to be pioneering the use of the simple environmental practice of washing used materials in humanitarian relief efforts, with the vision that it will become the status quo for the larger international humanitarian agencies and refugee host governments.

Dirty Girls washes (to hospital standards) blankets, sleeping bags and other materials so that they can be reused. This contrasts with the present practices of most International Non Government Organisations (INGOs) that involve the cavalier trashing of all materials and replacement with new ones.

To date, Dirty Girls has saved over 600 tons of material from landfill.

Plans for 2018

In 2018 we will continue, on Lesvos and on mainland Greece, to implement and encourage circular rather than linear thinking with items distributed for use which can be washed and re-used in an environmentally and economically sound cycle.

Powered by

This platform is powered by Asterias-Starfish Foundation. We are trying to let every organisation have a clear view of the needs on the island of Lesvos. To give them access to funding when they haven't any, and give to the donors the full information they need, when they want to offer their help.

Let's work together, to cover the needs of this humanitarian crisis, through a transparent platform

About us

Matching needs and offers.

Asterias-Starfish Foundation being on the refugees' crisis field for a long time, came face to face with emergency needs, lack of information and communication. Even now, when the flow is not so big, actually nobody knows the needs of the others. So many times, items are remaining in warehouses and refugees still need them. On the other hand, donors want to offer their help in this refugee crisis, but they cannot find where to channel this help.

We are launching this platform to help us to work more efficiently.  To let every organization have a clear view of the needs on the island of Lesvos. To give them access to funding when they haven't any, and give to the donors the full information they need, when they want to offer their help.

Let's work together, to cover the needs of this humanitarian crisis, through a transparent platform.
