About Borderline-europe

Borderline-europe is a German human rights organization monitoring the situation of migrants on the external borders of Europe. In 2015 Borderline established a branch on Lesvos (borderline-lesvos) to respond to the humanitarian crisis and opened a first reception station in the north of the island.

In July 2016 Borderline opened the Mosaik Support Center (https://lesvosmosaik.org/en/) in Mytilini in cooperation with the local NGO Lesvos Solidarity (https://www.lesvossolidarity.org/en/).

We are an independent network, and registered Non-Profit Organization that relies on support, donations and the energy of activists whose work is grounded in the belief that solidarity is the only appropriate response to this crisis.

Plans for 2018

We will continue to operate the Mosaik Support Center with Lesvos Solidarity. Mosaik provides a space of warmth, safety and community for the most vulnerable populations on Lesvos. Built on principles of solidarity, integration and empowerment, Mosaik aims to move beyond immediate crisis response and to offer sustainable structures to support refugees in their resolve to live with dignity. Bringing together over 800 students aged 4 to 89, from 20 countries, Mosaik offers language courses in English, Greek, Arabic and Farsi, legal support for asylum applicants, vocational training in arts and crafts, upcycling workshops, music and dance classes, and cultural events supported by artists, activists and organizations from across the world. Our aim is to include as many locals and refugees in our work and to give paid jobs to people already living on the island.

Also we still assist the Northern Response Teams in the North of the Island with transportation of refugees (when arriving in Korakas, Tsonia, and other Northeast locations) and we have a first reception center ( former cheesefactory) in Kleio still on hold in case Skala Sikiminias First reception Camp is out of capacity, at the moment we use the space as a warehouse and our transporter car assists with other services in the area, garbage collecting, life vests tranportation to workshops etc.

Borderline-lesvos has currently 10 people on contract mainly working in Mosaik Support Center (teachers, recpetionists, coordinators, cleaner, driver a.s.o.). Beyond that we work with more then 10 additional freelancers and volunteers ( teachers, translators, workshop trainers etc).

This platform is powered by Asterias-Starfish Foundation. We are trying to let every organisation have a clear view of the needs on the island of Lesvos. To give them access to funding when they haven't any, and give to the donors the full information they need, when they want to offer their help.

Let's work together, to cover the needs of this humanitarian crisis, through a transparent platform

About us

Matching needs and offers.

Asterias-Starfish Foundation being on the refugees' crisis field for a long time, came face to face with emergency needs, lack of information and communication. Even now, when the flow is not so big, actually nobody knows the needs of the others. So many times, items are remaining in warehouses and refugees still need them. On the other hand, donors want to offer their help in this refugee crisis, but they cannot find where to channel this help.

We are launching this platform to help us to work more efficiently.  To let every organization have a clear view of the needs on the island of Lesvos. To give them access to funding when they haven't any, and give to the donors the full information they need, when they want to offer their help.

Let's work together, to cover the needs of this humanitarian crisis, through a transparent platform.
